WARDOGS Development Timeline: 2026 Events

Follow the WARDOGS Development Timeline from the February reveal through closed tests, the Steam Early Access launch, and the first launch hotfix.

What is the current WARDOGS Development Timeline?

The current public timeline begins with the WARDOGS reveal in February 2026, moves through closed testing in August, records Closed Beta 02 and a short Open Beta window in September, and reaches the Steam Early Access launch on September 10, 2026. Version 1.0 has no fixed public date; the developer’s current planning horizon is roughly one to two years of Early Access. This page was rechecked against the launch announcements on September 10, 2026.

The timeline separates tests from the commercial launch. A Closed Alpha or Closed Beta is not the Early Access release, and access rules can differ between each build. The launch and hotfix notices now follow the test milestones so readers do not mistake a playtest invitation or trailer for the current public build.

WARDOGS | Reveal Trailer - Team17

February 5, 2026: Reveal Trailer

Team17 introduced WARDOGS with the official Reveal Trailer. The accompanying description presented a tactical all-out-warfare FPS with up to 100 players split across three teams, a Control Zone objective, a destructible battlefield, cash, and future playtest sign-up routes. This is the start point for the public 2026 record, not a playable release date.

The video is useful evidence for the game’s high-level identity and visual direction. Its page does not provide a complete rules manual, and the available local material notes that the full subtitle file is not a reliable source for every gameplay claim. Use official store text for precise mechanics and the trailer for what is shown or announced.

August 2026: Closed tests and access changes

The Steam announcement archive records separate Alpha and Beta communication. The August 21–23 Closed Beta was announced with its own access and preload process, while earlier test activity used different rules and restrictions. The public Beta schedule also lifted its NDA for that event, but a separate test or private build may have had different terms.

The timeline should label each test by name, date range, access route, and whether its NDA was lifted. The end of a test is not evidence that the Early Access build has identical balance, map rotation, or economy. Community observations such as map names and UI behavior belong to their test build until the developer confirms them again.

August 24, 2026: Beta recap and next steps

The Steam announcement titled “WARDOGS | Beta Recap & Next Steps” marked the closed Beta as complete and thanked participants. It pointed toward a major announcement connected to the FPS Games Show on September 3. The post is a dated development checkpoint and a source for what the team communicated after testing; it is not a promise that every requested feature will ship next.

Server scaling, stability, player feedback, and future content are recurring themes in the recent announcement sequence. Those topics help explain why the timeline includes development updates between trailers and release milestones. They should not be rewritten as a fixed sprint schedule unless the developer publishes one.

September 1–6, 2026: Closed Beta 02 and Open Beta

On September 1, the developers announced Closed Beta 02 ahead of The FPS Games Show. Pre-orders guaranteed access while additional Steam Playtest invitees were added in waves to test server scaling and browsing, Twitch Drops, DLC entitlements, VOIP, and the login queue. The Steam store listed the guaranteed window from September 3 at 19:00 UTC through September 6 at 08:00 UTC.

On September 5, an official Steam post changed the Closed Beta into an Open Beta and invited players to stress the servers. That notice set the end at Sunday 08:00 UTC, so this milestone is now historical. It does not establish a permanent open test or a future beta date.

September 3, 2026: FPS Games Show

The public timeline listed an FPS Games Show appearance for September 3, 2026. That date has passed, and the official Beta 02 notice ties the test opening to the showcase. The collected official feed does not yet provide a dedicated recap or full recording, so specific features should not be attributed to the show without a primary source.

No gameplay feature, map, price, or mode should be attributed to this appearance without an archived official segment or announcement. A showcase can reveal footage or a message without changing the Steam build. Keep the event description limited to the date and the surrounding official posts until a primary recap states what was shown.

September 10, 2026: Steam Early Access

Steam lists Windows PC Early Access for September 10, 2026, with BULKHEAD as developer and Team17 as publisher. The Early Access FAQ describes a playable core built around 100-player, three-team matches, large maps, dynamic objectives, cash and XP progression, gunplay, vehicles, logistics, support, and proximity voice. The launch build can still change through balance and stability updates.

The developer expects to add more maps, weapons, vehicles, gameplay variety, progression depth, and objective variations during Early Access. These are development directions, not a guarantee that each item is present on day one. A release checklist should therefore keep “planned” separate from “available.”

September 9–10, 2026: preload, launch, and stability hotfix

The official Steam feed announced that the Early Access preload was live on September 9 and published the Season 1 changelog. On September 10, the launch trailer announced the Steam Early Access release, followed by Launch Stability Hotfix #1 for server joins, unexpected kicks, and extended login queues. Players were asked to restart, install the client update, and re-enter the queue while access was increased in controlled batches.

The launch changelog also records fixes and balance changes across reporting, voice chat, vehicles, performance, XP, economy, and role-track unlocks. These entries are the first live-build milestones after the Beta and should be kept separate from the earlier test observations.

September 22–October 2, 2026: Season 2 and Update 0.1.2

The official feed dates Season 2 for October 15, then records the September 29 Update 0.1.2 with the WD-L020 fix, new DEPLOY categories, exploit protections, and server-flow improvements. On October 2, a balance hotfix disables IR Rangefinders until Season 2 and changes CIWS versus Havoc. The Season 2 guide, Update 0.1.2 notes, and balance hotfix guide keep each scope separate.

When is version 1.0?

There is no fixed public version 1.0 date in the collected evidence. The developer describes Early Access as roughly one to two years, but also says the plan can move with scope, feedback, balance, and stability. A calendar date should not be calculated by adding a fixed number of months to September 10.

The safe timeline wording is “no fixed date; Early Access expected around one to two years.” Revisit it when an official roadmap or release announcement replaces the planning estimate. Do not use a competitor’s target as a confirmed launch date.
