WARDOGS Engine and Performance Guide for PC

Learn which engine WARDOGS uses, what its official performance work covers, and how Steam requirements frame PC settings for large battles today.

Which engine does WARDOGS use?

WARDOGS uses Unreal Engine with a layer of custom technology called the War Dynamics Framework. A developer explained that this framework is intended to push the engine beyond conventional means for the game’s large-scale all-out warfare design. The engine statement comes from an official developer response in the WARDOGS Steam community.

The engine choice should be read together with the game’s actual requirements and performance updates. Unreal Engine identifies the technology base, while the Steam listing and official performance announcement describe the PC hardware targets and optimization work players can use when preparing a system.

What changed in the launch performance update?

The official Season 1 launch changelog records several performance and stability fixes. DLSS Frame Generation can now be disabled without restarting, shadow-cache refreshes were reduced to cut hitching, and two frame-generation crash paths were fixed. The update also adds more detail to GPU crash reports, removes a legacy graphics dependency, and improves startup recovery messages.

These changes describe the live launch build and should be preferred over older Beta observations. They do not guarantee a fixed frame rate on every system, so use the current Steam requirements and in-game options when tuning a PC.

What performance work has the team published?

The official Level Design & Performance announcement says performance has been a priority since day one. It describes research in Georgia, continuous optimization across a wide range of hardware, and graphics options that let players tune the experience to their own PC. The announcement presents performance work as an ongoing development effort rather than a single fixed preset.

That focus fits the systems described for WARDOGS. The game combines up to one hundred players, large maps, dynamic objectives, vehicles, construction, destruction, and online voice communication. Different scenes can place different demands on a computer, so a graphics setting that works in one situation is not automatically a universal recommendation.

What are the current minimum PC requirements?

Steam currently lists the following minimum profile for WARDOGS:

ComponentMinimum requirement
Operating systemWindows 10, 64-bit processor and operating system
ProcessorIntel Core i5-8600 or AMD Ryzen 5 3500
Memory16 GB RAM
GraphicsNvidia GTX 1660 or Radeon RX 590
Storage50 GB available space
NetworkBroadband Internet connection
Steam target note1080p Low at 60fps, upscaled

These are the values shown on the official Steam listing at the time of this page review. The target note describes the condition attached to the listed profile; it is not a promise that every battle scene will produce the same result. Compare your exact processor and graphics model with the table before deciding how to configure the game.

Steam currently lists the following recommended profile:

ComponentRecommended requirement
Operating systemWindows 11, 64-bit processor and operating system
ProcessorIntel Core i7-12700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5700X
Memory16 GB RAM
GraphicsNvidia RTX 3070 or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT
Storage50 GB available space
NetworkBroadband Internet connection
Steam target note1440p Medium at 70fps+ native, or 4K Medium at 60fps+ upscaled

The recommended profile gives a reference for higher resolution and quality. It does not replace a real test on your PC, and it does not define a separate laptop or integrated-graphics tier. If your hardware sits between the two listed profiles, use the graphics options and evaluate the current build rather than treating an in-between result as an official guarantee.

How should you approach graphics settings?

Start from a stable resolution and a conservative quality profile, then change one option at a time. Test in a scene that represents the game’s real workload, including players, vehicles, structures, and the Control Zone when those elements are available. Record the resolution, graphics preset, driver, and build date so that a result can be compared after an update.

The official announcement confirms that graphics options are intended to let players tune WARDOGS to their own PC. It does not publish a universal shadow, view-distance, upscaling, or frame-cap preset. A personal profile is therefore more useful when it explains the hardware and test conditions instead of presenting one number as the best setting for everyone.

Why can performance guidance change?

WARDOGS is entering Steam Early Access, and the Steam description says the build will continue to receive balance changes, feature expansion, and polish. The developers also list performance and stability as ongoing priorities. New maps, vehicles, destruction systems, or engine changes can alter the workload that a particular PC sees.

For that reason, keep this page tied to the date of the Steam requirements. Recheck the official store listing and dated announcements after a major patch, driver-related issue, or graphics update. The current evidence supports the engine description, the published hardware profiles, and the optimization direction; it does not support a permanent FPS promise for every configuration.
